Welcome to "Drum Corps 101", presented by the staff of the Golden Empire Drum & Bugle Corps from Bakersfield College.
Course Info
Officially known as MUSC B28 - Drum & Bugle Corps at BC, we have moved the course online in place of our usual Drum Corps International summer tour to offer a condensed, intro level, drum corps education.
Over 6 weeks, students will learn about the drum corps audition process, fundamental techniques, and then begin to apply their skills to a scaled-down contemporary drum corps production. In the end, the video performances submitted by students will be combined to create a final product showcasing the entire class.
NOTE: MUSC B28 is a 2 unit course at Bakersfield College, and the credits are transferrable to UC and CSU campuses.
Who can sign up?
The course is open to anyone that would like to participate. While continuing members of GE 2020 are strongly encouraged to register, we'd also like to welcome former corps members, marching band students that are new to drum corps, guard students, etc. Unlike our competitive season, there is no age limit this summer.
Registration and Fees
Because the course is offered online, you must register for MUSC B28 (CRN 51377) at Bakersfield College to get access to the materials and participate in the class. Info on how to register is available here:
Once you've registered, log in to https://insidebc.kccd.edu to find the course in Canvas to get started.
The only cost to participate is Bakersfield College tuition and student fees, which total about $100 for the summer semester. Tuition is waived for HS students. Details here:
Key Dates
Registration is currently open, but it closes soon, so apply/register today! The course officially runs from June 15th through July 24th, but because it is somewhat self-paced, don't worry about getting up to speed once you're in.
